Tailor-Made
A little lookpost to take you into the weekend. This week, I have a cool little look for you all styling up my favourite jacket at the moment and celebrating tailor-made style. I received this jacket for my birthday recently and have just loved it ever since. I love that it’s bold, printed and goes with almost anything in my existing wardrobe since it is monochromatic. I am a sucker for a statement piece so this is a winner in my eyes. Lately, I have been inspired by masculine tailoring and mixing up the genders to create a cool, effortless look. I am obsessed with trousers as part of this masculine tailoring phase of mine. I got these capri trousers from Woolworths and they sit so structured and comfortably on the body. All I really need now is a pair of wide leg pants and culottes then I will be set.Masculine tailoring, for me, is all about fit. Menswear can look amazing on women when it is fitted with an aire of femininity maintained. Margaret Zhang once described her style as “menswear with feminine shoes” and I think that is the perfect summary of wstyling up an androgynous look. I think if you try dress like a dude, at least still keep it feminine, taking into consideration your frame and aspects that you like about masculine tailoring; is it the straight leg cut of the pants, the pocket details, the over-sized, boxy shirts or the structured nature of a good ol' fashioned suit. These shoes must be my best buy from this month. It’s still a shock when I find amazing pieces at MRP (Mr Price) because its so budget and most people struggle to find items that they like there; they are always like “ how come you find all the great pieces there?” It’s the power of the edit. As with any shopping experience, being selective with pieces and looking for quality, not just what is the cheapest should be top on the list. Versatility will also help you decide what to ring up at the till; can I wear this with more than five items in my closet and is it comfortable.I went for a colder and more industrial look with this look post as I wanted to complement the strong geometry of the jacket and bring a masculine element. The half complete construction in the background really brings that feel together I think.Instagram: @londam_holland_
