The Style Journal of An Editor

After a long hiatus, I am so happy to say "hey" to all of you again. The last time I was popping up on your PC or mobile screen, I had just come back from an incredible time in Berlin and hyped about pretty much everything. Fast-forward about two months later and I am wishing for December. It has been crazy and it seems like 2016 is hitting the ground running at the speed of a thousand. Alot of people that I have spoken to feel the same and its crazy that we are already going into July!

Bewilderment aside, this month was my birthday; if you were following my Instagram you would have seen that it was a pretty chilled affair with family and friends. This has kind of been my birthday vibe since I turned 25...gone are the days of dress-up club birthdays and libations aplenty - I now just crave amazing experiences and fun-filled memories. Along with the coming of my 28th year, I find myself questioning my life a bit and really concentrating on value in terms of time to myself, time for my family and doing things that I really enjoy. Sometimes we get stuck in a comfort zone of the hustle and chasing after the next paycheck and attention capital. Now, I cannot sit here and say that I am not still on that grand hustle and striving for success at every turn but it's almost a case of how I want to achieve it and at what price. Maybe my views would have changed by the time of my next birthday..if it does, I'll be sure to let you know.

This coat is one that I picked up in Berlin at a store called Pimkie. It's full of on-trend, affordable pieces (if you don't convert back to South African rands *eek*) that are fuss-free and just everything that you need without you even knowing it. I have been on a search for the perfect camel coat that would be light enough to wear over jeans and a tee in the summer, just to elevate an otherwise casual outfit but also add on as an extra layer in the winter. I have been wearing this coat non-stop lately, it's the perfect basic and I wouldn't mind having about four of these beauties.

I have also started collaborating with my sister, photographer of 4th Eye Photography and this is the result of our collaboration. I love the moody tones of the images especially how the movement through my coat and grey skies add an extra something...I hope that you enjoy them.

This shoot is possibly one of my favorites to date as I have never done a shoot so dramatic and one that really depicts a story, mood and exquisite feel. This editorial was shot as part of the Arthur Kaplan 12 Days of Christmas campaign. Even though this deal has passed (yay if you got it one of the pieces) I could not bear the thought of not sharing the whole editorial with you. I shot this with my sister, Siwelile, head photographer at 4th Eye Photography (she is currently taking blogger lookpost bookings so book yours here). We had never shot something super editorial before so it was a challenge in the beginning to see if we could pull it off... and I mean really pull it off. I knew I wanted something clean, ethereal and a mood that would transport you into another world. Originally I had scouted out this beautiful flower walled building to shoot against but after a run in with security after not knowing that the wall was off bounds (thanks for shooting *sigh*), we needed a plan B. Siwe has been eyeing this forest location for the longest time and always wanted to shoot something there. At first I doubted this forest vision as my heart was set on Kanye West dreams of flower wallin' hard but when I saw it with my own eyes...I was just blown away. The serenity of the location was exactly what the shoot had to be about and the warm browns and toasty hues were the perfect backdrop to my all-white ensemble. I was truly living out some fairytale dreams here.

We shot with a beautiful dappled lighting created by the trees and some reflector light for a golden glow on the skin. I love how this shoot has so much movement in it as I played around with the tulle in my skirt and the shadows and light created the mood. I really loved the incredible eye that my sister has and just was in awe of the way she works. I definitely cannot wait to create another one of these shoots with my sister...I can already feel the ideas rolling in...

Arthur Kaplan approached me to collaborate on their 12 Days Of Christmas jewellery campaign. Since Christmas is around the corner, it can get pretty overwhelming thinking up gift lists from mother to that distant cousin. If you have been following my social media accounts, you would have seen teasers about the campaign and probably wondering what the fuss is all about. With the 12 Days Of Christmas campaign, every day from today, there will be 12 boxes revealed, each with a special jewellery deal for that day and that day only. If you have signed up at www.arthurkaplan12days.co.za, you can now reap the rewards of those 5 minutes spent filling in your details.

I am so happy to finally share with you what's in my box and up for grabs today.

Today's deal piece is the Muse Silver cubic Circle of Life pendant and chain. When you purchase this piece at an Arthur Kaplan store today, you will receive the Muse Silver cubic studs with pavé halo for free! Sounds good right? Today is the only day that you can purchase these beautiful pieces from the “Muse Silver Collection” at this insane deal. I absolutely love these pieces for their minimalistic design and they are classic pieces that you can wear every day. Every girl needs a dainty necklace and that classic pair of studs that you can pop on to elevate your daily outfits. I love how this collection is described as a collection that "will reignite your fairytale fantasies", which surprisingly aligned with the vision of this shoot. I feel it's a collection for people who love a bit of sophistication but still like to flirt with girly, whimsical sparkle. All the collection pieces are set in rhodium-plated sterling silver, so they will always keep their brilliance and not get that dreaded dull, tarnished look. I would definitely get this as a gift for a special woman in my life, like my mother, someone who is timeless, feminine and classic

Head over to any Arthur Kaplan store today during normal shopping hours. The first 12 readers to purchase this silver Circle of Life pendant and chain for R999, receive this pair of silver cubic zirconia studs worth R599 for free.

Take a look at these images, getting a closer look at the jewellery then dash to go get your own. Tweet, Instagram or comment below if you purchase this deal, I would love to see how it looks on you!
